Flying Vipers - Off World (Limited Edition Cassette)

Easy Star Records is proud to present the third full-length album from Flying Vipers, Off World, to be released April 11th, 2025. After 10 years of instrumental dubwise reggae, the next chapter of the band has arrived, with new addition Kellee Webb’s soulful lead vocals adding depth to the Vipers’ cassette-crafted sound.

This limited-edition version of the record is on extremely appropriate cassette (considering Flying Vipers’ method of production). Only 100 are being pressed. It also has bonus tracks currently NOT available elsewhere, even for streaming, though they may show up on other platforms later this year. While Off World is largely comprised of original compositions, three covers encapsulate the lyrical and musical themes found throughout the LP: an alienation anthem from Northwest punk pioneers Wipers; the instrumental theme from the cult classic animated film La Planète Sauvage (featuring the acclaimed jazz harpist Brandee Younger); and most likely the first dubwise Sun Ra tribute. Their own singles, like "Believers & Deceivers" and "Jackals," confront the grim reality of modern culture, wondering if life in America (and/or Earth) is worth fighting for or leaving behind. Through it all the drum and bass anchor the music, helping listeners to hold their ground and to guide an escape into sonic space.

Flying Vipers record murky dub-inflected reggae on a Tascam 8-track in their basement bunker outside Boston, MA. Their love of Jamaican and UK 70’s roots and dub is their north star, but eclectic crates of records and a couple decades worth of DIY punk shows bleed through on tape. Twin brothers Marc & John Beaudette on drums and bass telekinetically lock-in with Zack Brines' layers of vintage organs and electric pianos in concise melodic meditations. With Off World, their first full-length album featuring vocalist Kellee Webb, the band uses this foundation to explore the fight or flight of contemporary survival.
